OLPC France and Sugar Labs are organizing the 1st SugarCamp at La Cantine in Paris on Saturday, May 16th, from 10:00AM to 7:00PM.

This event is a unique opportunity to meet the European Sugar community and Walter Bender, Executive Director of Sugar Labs and co-founder of the One Laptop per Child foundation.

The Sugar Learning Platform promotes collaborative and critical-thinking learning. It is already in use worldwide on 800,000 XO, the small laptops designed by the OLPC fondation and distributed to developing countries.

This event will be organize around several workshops focusing on technical facts, pedagogical materials and FLOSS manual. Walter Bender will give an introduction talk about Sugar. We will also hold a Malagasy workshop, translating Sugar content for the 100 XOs that OLPC France plans to deploy in Madagascar (we are still raising funds for this project.)

Caroline Meeks of Sugar Labs will present the beta-1 of Sugar on a Stick, a tool which lets anyone run Sugar on almost any computer with a USB key. Version 1.0 is scheduled for release in Q3.

AFUL and Gdium are sponsoring this event. GDium will demonstrate how to run Sugar on the Liberty 1000 netbook.

Cet événement est une occasion unique de rencontrer la communauté européenne Sugar ainsi que Walter Bender, directeur exécutif de Sugar Labs et co-fondateur de la fondation OLPC.

Sugar est une plate-forme pédagogique libre, promouvant l'apprentissage collaboratif et critique. Cette plate-forme est aujourd'hui utilisée sur plus de 800 000 XO, les mini-ordinateurs conçus par la fondation One Laptop per Child et distribués dans les pays en voie de développement.

Après une conférence d'introduction de Walter Bender, l'événement s'organisera autour de plusieurs ateliers techniques, pédagogiques et sur la documentation. Un atelier sera également dédié à la traduction de Sugar en Malgache, en vue du déploiement de 100 XO à Madagascar, pour lequel OLPC France recherche toujours des fonds.

Caroline Meeks de Sugar Labs fera une démonstration du beta-1 de Sugar-On-A-Stick, outil qui permet d'utiliser Sugar sur presque n'importe quel ordinateur à partir d'une clef USB et dont la version 1.0 est attendue à la rentrée.
